Fathers Day Half Marathon

Fathers Day Half Marathon – Half Way Home!

The Feat on the Street Fathers Day Half Marathon was a fun way to spend Fathers’ Day morning.  But, what father wants to spend Father’s Day running 13.1 miles when I could be drinking beer and watching the US Open.  Fortunately there were several other guys like me in the bunch.

And, it was GREAT to have the family there when I crossed the half way mark to my road to 50 states!

Travel & Boulder

I’m old and I still learn painful lessons.  Some of these lessons are lessons I’ve learned before.  I guess that makes me dumb too (maybe just stubborn?).  On this trip, I had convinced my wife Amy that we should take the first flight out on Saturday the 15th of June.  And, return home on the first flight out of Denver on Monday June 17th.  So, we woke up at 2:30 a.m., 5:30 a.m. and 3:00 a.m., Saturday through Monday.  With two small kids.  Just dumb.

The good news is the pain wouldn’t set in until we got home Monday early afternoon so when we landed, after a brief mess at the Avis rental car center, we headed off to Boulder, CO.  And, that is how we spent Saturday afternoon.  We headed directly to Chautauqua Park for a hike.

There are not too many places to start.  You just go UP, and UP we went.  With two small kids.  Honestly, I think they did remarkable considering the climb.  We made it about 1 mile up before turning around and coming back.  On the way out of Boulder we swung through Pearl Street.  A little lunch, some over priced gelato and we’re out of here.

The Race

They all cannot be winners.  I have had my share of great races, my share of terrible races and some in the middle that just fade away.  This race is in that middle bucket.  13.1 miles of BLAH.  The race had so many turns, twists, loop backs that virtually at no point in the race did I know where I was or which way I was going.  Which, when you’re in a place you don’t know, and fighting poor fitness, the blazing sun and 5,400 of altitude is maybe an OKAY thing.

Great trip but next time, no more 3:00 a.m. wake up calls for flights.  Getting too old for this nonsense!

Coors Field & Rockies vs Padres

After the race we headed back to the hotel, did a quick refresh and walked to Coors Field for a game.  Time for a little baseball.
